⚠ Low risk
Reported risk: systematic failures reported in 2.0% of posts (12 of 613).

The EV6 is a genuinely fun electric crossover with the fastest charging architecture in its class and handling sharp enough to make you forget you're driving a family hauler. The ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) fails often enough to strand 2% of owners unpredictably, and Kia hasn't fixed the root cause, warranty covers the repair, but not the tow truck wait or the loaner lottery at your dealer. Buy it used with heavy depreciation in your favor if you have a solid dealer nearby and can stomach the stranding risk; skip it if you need absolute reliability or hate turning radii the size of a school bus.

The generation that matters
This product isn't one story — here's how each era is regarded.
Pre-2025 models
2022–2024
Solid
Known for the ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) issue, a widely discussed defect covered under warranty. Posts note it's less catastrophic than the sub makes it seem, but it's a real concern. Also lacks manual battery preconditioning button (software-only in '25s). Otherwise praised for driving dynamics and build quality.
2025 refresh
2025
Mixed
Removed AR (augmented reality) HUD feature present in earlier models, disappointing some buyers. Added software preconditioning button. Otherwise carries forward the platform's strengths but the feature removal is a notable step backward for a refresh.
Common complaints7 issues
Systematic ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) failures leaving owners stranded, still occurring in current production
Extremely poor turning radius for the vehicle class, comparable to much larger vehicles
Inconsistent dealer service quality and loaner vehicle policies
No rear wiper despite rear visibility challenges
Poor A-pillar and B-pillar visibility creating significant blind spots
Software/infotainment lacks polish: no manual battery preconditioning button (pre-2025), profiles don't auto-switch with key fob
High depreciation from MSRP (though largely due to incentive structures, not inherent vehicle issues)
What owners praise8 strengths
Exceptional 800V fast-charging architecture: charges at peak 350kW, significantly faster than competitors
Excellent driving dynamics: fun to drive with tight handling, especially GT trim with 576-641hp
Strong safety performance: mentioned as top-tier in real death rate analysis (community post +261 upvotes)
Spacious interior with modern design and good tech features including HUD (pre-2025 models)
V2L (vehicle-to-load) capability highly praised for powering external devices
Generous warranty coverage: 10yr/100k powertrain, 15yr/150k ICCU (extended)
Strong value proposition when purchased used or with incentives (often $10k+ below MSRP)
Superior ride quality compared to Tesla Model Y (multiple direct comparisons)

Scores are percentile ranks: 5.0 is the median product in existence. 8.5+ is reserved for genuinely exceptional products (top ~10%). The score reflects consensus quality, what owners say about the product. Risk is tracked separately and shown above the summary when present. Both are calculated deterministically, so the same signals always produce the same score.
